We all know Lucie Geist ’25 as Student Council President, whether it’s because of her weekly town meeting announcements, her presence at school events, or simply seeing her around the halls during the day. However, not many know much about what happens behind the scenes or the skills required to be a good leader.
As an incoming freshman new to St. Luke’s, Lucie would have laughed at the thought of ever

becoming the President of Student Council. Fortunately for her, she has made amazing friends
who have supported her every step of the way, leading up to her tackling this leadership position. When asked about how her friends have helped build her confidence, Lucie stated, “All throughout high school, my friends have always come to support me at my games or clubs or Relay for Life. That showed me that if I were to take on a bigger role, they would still support me and help me.” The constant encouragement Lucie receives from her large group of friends helped her feel comfortable running for President and still allows her to feel secure in her decision making.
Building up confidence is important to being a good leader, but having peers be confident in your ability to lead well is key. Fortunately, the Executive Board has no problem trusting Lucie to do what is needed and get tasks done. Emma Sherter ’25 mentioned that “Lucie is the definition of a leader. She is so incredibly organized and always comes to meetings prepared. She is competent and executes so many fun and exciting student events, and, most importantly, she listens to others and is a team player. I have been on Student Council for a while now and

she is by far the best leader I’ve worked with.” Similarly, our very own Dr. Bludgus, Head of Upper School and Student Council Advisor, said that “Lucie is great at taking initiative and following up on things. She is constantly reaching out to students and adults, building consensus, mobilizing our community, and advocating for an even more vibrant school culture here at St. Luke’s. She is a true joy to work with!” When students and faculty alike are complimenting your work ethic and leadership, it’s clear that confidence is not something Lucie struggles with as much as she did during freshman year Harkness discussions.
Even though Lucie never imagined leading the Student Council, it ended up being the only part of St. Luke’s that she had not had a role in prior to her reign as president. She is a member of the girls’ basketball team and was a celebrated senior on the field hockey team. An active

member of the Relay for Life team, Lucie works to raise money for cancer research as a way to give back to her community. Additionally, Lucie is a part of the Global Scholars program, researching drug cartels in Mexico and how they affect both Mexico and America. Clearly, Lucie has fulfilled the school’s motto of Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve. Approaching her last year on the Hilltop, she realized that she had ideas and changes she wanted to see fulfilled and knew that she would have to tackle the last thing on her list.
All year, Lucie has worked to provide students with a multitude of fun opportunities. She states that her proudest accomplishment was definitely the first Homecoming dance. “Having everyone come together after a day of supporting our sport teams and listening to student performers was really special.” Following the most populated school dance in her time at St. Luke’s, Lucie knew that would need to do something extraordinary for the winter semi-formal. So, she made the theme Casino night and planned many different games with chips to earn different candy

prizes. Additionally, she brought in Brennan Fila ’25 as DJ, convinced by Will Moskowitz ’25 and Henry Stimpson ’25 that he would be a much better DJ than years prior. Along with the dances, the spirit weeks and the fall pep rally have gone spectacularly well. Due to her superb organizational skills and student insight, Lucie has planned fun events and has more lined up for the future.
Along with having her friends encouragement, Lucie has a supportive family that is proud of her many accomplishments. Her parents and her brother have helped her become the wonderful leader that students see at Town Meetings or various sporting events. “We’re a very close knit family. We have family dinners every night. My brother and I are also very close. We argue a lot and we’re very different, but he and my parents have shaped

me a lot as a person. They’ve taught me how to be a good listener…which applies to my role as President.” A bad leader is one who does not listen to criticism. As President, it is necessary to listen to different pieces of advice, people’s perspectives, and overall what people have to say. Luckily for the St. Luke’s community, Lucie is excellent at hearing what students want and things that could be changed.
After her time at St. Luke’s, Lucie will head off to Nashville, Tennessee where she will continue her education at Vanderbilt University. She will take with her the lessons of gratitude and open-mindedness that being Student Council President has taught her.
